2008 Grand National Runners
Handicaps for the Grand National are established in late February, and the odds quoted below are subject to change. For all the latest Grand National odds visit William Hill.
State of Play
British-born State of Play has an excellent National Hunt record with 4 wins in seven chases. His greatest moment in racing came in the 2006 Hennessey Gold Cup where he took the race. He was pulled out of the 2007 Grand National at the last moment, but looks set to compete in the 2008 event. His performance is difficult to predict as he was last raced in November 2006. Look out for the horse in the build-up to the 2008 Grand National – if the handicappers don’t cripple him the 33/1 odds offer a good bet.
Nine de Sivola
This 2008 Grand National runner will enter the event at Aintree as something of an outsider at 33/1 odds. Although Nine de Sivola has a good record on hurdles, he’s built something of a reputation as a second-place finisher in chases with 5 second place finishes in 11 starts. His owners believe he needs just one big race to show his mettle and overcome his inexperience. With second place finishes in both the Irish and Scottish Nationals punters hope that 2008 will be the year the Nine de Sivola refuses to take second place.
Halcon Genelardais
This young 2008 Grand National runner is a precocious talent, and has already achieved a top tier title with a Welsh National win in 2006. Critics claim that Halcon Genelardais is too inexperienced to make much headway on the tough Aintree course, and is best suited to the soft turf of France. Nevertheless Halcon Genelardais’ record speaks for itself with the horse having a better than 50% win rate in chase racing. Bookies have him at 33/1 odds, and if the handicappers are as dismissive of his talent he may well produce something special in April 2008.
Dun Doire
Dun Doire is a quality Irish born chase racehorse whose 50/1 Grand National odds don’t do justice to his 50% chase win record. The horse was considered one of the favourite 2007 Grand National runners but put in a terrible performance and failed to finish the race. Burnt out by his successful 2006/2006 season, Dun Doire has since showed a return to form with a chase win in 2007.
